For our first article about things to do in South Hero, we’re going to promote healthy bicycling.
South Hero is an amazing place to ride your bike, whether you’re alone, with your significant other, traveling as a family with children or you like to ride as a group, biking is a great thing to do in South Hero! The roads are relatively smooth and on many of the roads along the shore, the traffic can be light.
The Island Line Trail connects South Hero all the way to Burlington, Vermont via an old railroad causeway.

You can access the Island Line Trail from the winery, it’s a short ride away. Most any type of bike is suitable for this ride and it’s a great ride (or walk) for kids as it’s exciting to ride with the lake on both sides!

Be prepared to take the bicycle ferry run by Local Motion if you want to ride the length of the causeway as there’s a break in the causeway for boats to go through and the only way across is via the bike ferry.

For a longer ride, try the 32-mile Island Loop. It’s a great thing to do while you’re in South Hero and it also extends to lovely Grand Isle, Vermont so you’ll get to explore that area as well.
